The problem with Apple’s iOS platform is that it isn’t very customizable. There are so many hoops to jump through just to create a custom ringtone that most people don’t even bother. That could very well change in iOS 18. This is according to a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter.
According to Gurman, iOS 18 could introduce some massive customizability options for the home screen. At the moment, Apple’s home screen still feels quite limited in terms of customizability. Sure, there are widgets you can use, but it still feels somewhat restrictive compared to Android.

One of those changes is apparently users will be able to place app icons anywhere on the grid. Previously, iOS would not allow users to make gaps between apps icons. This resulted in users having to turn to third-party apps to create blank apps to create those gaps. It’s not the most elegant solution, but iOS 18 could fix that.
It is expected that the next iOS major update could be its biggest one yet, with some claiming it could be the biggest update in iOS history. It is also expected that Apple will introduce brand new AI features that will allow them to catch up to the likes of Google and Samsung. Apple will most likely announce iOS 18 at WWDC which should take place mid-year, so check back with us then for more updates.
