The ability to play ID Software’s hit classic “DOOM” on just nearly every modern device nowadays has become a cultural tech and gaming phenomenon in itself, showing that if there’s a will, there’s a way. With that in mind, the folks over at Swedish industrial company Husqvarna have managed to get DOOM up and running on its NERA Automower.
For those not in the know, the NERA Automower is a robotic lawn mower that comes equipped with smart functions. The collaborative project was first shown off during DreamHack Winter 2023 back in November, which allowed event attendees to play the 1993 version of DOOM on Husqvarna’s robot lawn mower range.
As such, DOOM will be sent over compatible Husqvarna Automowers as a free update later this year. Björn Mannefred, Robotics Software Engineer at Husqvarna comments:
“We are overwhelmed by the positive response to this innovation. When we showcased the update at DreamHack, people were really excited. Since then, we have been looking at how we can make the update available to more people. We are happy to announce that we will release DOOM on our Automower, in the spring of 2024”
With all that being said, the list of devices on which one can play DOOM on has now grown a bit longer.
