Spotify could be causing excessive battery drain on the Pixel 8 Pro

We’re not sure why, but Google’s Pixel phones have always had some kind of battery related issues. In the case of the Pixel 8 Pro, there is a chance that this might not be Google’s fault. According to various comments made on the Spotify Community page, it looks like the app could be causing excessive battery drain on the Pixel 8 Pro.

“Brand new phone and first day of use, and installed the app earlier today.  Spotify has somehow managed to drain 38% (!) of battery with 4 minutes screen time and 4h 44 mins background activity. I’m unsure about the length of background activity, too, since I’ve only been listening to podcasts and some music for two hours tops before completely closing the app. No downloads of playlists or music, either.”

The post was originally made in October last year, but judging by the comments, it looks like the problem continues to persist even until today. It also seems to be affecting non-Pixel 8 Pro handsets. Thankfully, there is a solution.

A comment made by one of the community’s moderators suggests that users perform a clean reinstall of the app. Some users have had some luck with the clean install, while others haven’t. If you are experiencing excessive battery drain on your Pixel 8 Pro with Spotify, it could be worth an attempt anyway.

Another potential fix could be to toggle off “Spotify Connect in the background”. You could give that a whirl if a clean reinstall doesn’t help. A lot of users seem quite unhappy with the situation. Some are even threatening to abandon the service for something else if the problem isn’t solved.
