The arrival of Android 14 has certainly brought over a lot of excitement for Android fans the world over, bringing over some nifty new features and helpful improvements. As such, different manufacturers including Google, Samsung, Xiaomi and more have started to bring over Android 14 for their respective devices – this of course includes Nothing, which currently has two devices in its roster (with a third one on its way soon).
With that in mind, you might be curious as to whether or not your Nothing phone is able to receive the Android 14 update, which comes baked into Nothing’s own custom OS. As such, we’ve prepared this quick and handy guide which lists some features that you can expect from Android 14, if and when it arrives on your phone.
As mentioned, Android 14 comes integrated into Nothing OS 2.5, which is the main user interface and “skin” for Nothing’s brand of smartphones. Nothing OS combines features brought over from Android 14, as well as the company’s own added functionality, such as support for the Nothing Phone Glyph Interface. Some new features include:
With that being said, there are a ton more refinements and improvements inside Nothing OS 2.5 and Android 14, but these are some of the major highlights you can expect once you update your device.
Given that manufacturers have improved their software update support in recent times, it’s certainly great to see Nothing provide a decent number of software support for its devices, although it has yet to catch up to the seven years of software support offered by other brands.
For major Android upgrades, Nothing promises up to three years of support for its smartphones, following the phone’s initial launch. As for security patches, Nothing Phones are scheduled to receive updates every two months, for up to four years.
At the moment, both the newer Nothing Phone 2 (launched in 2023) and first-gen Nothing Phone have finally started receiving Android 14 and Nothing OS 2.5. The Nothing Phone 2 was the first device to receive the update back in December, while the update was only recently announced for the Phone 1 this February.
As with most other brands, Android 14 will roll out via a staggered release, so there might be some differences with regards to roll-out schedules, as regional variants and carrier models might either get Android 14 early or later. As for the Nothing Phone 2a, the company says that Android 14 will be available from the get-go on the device.
Nothing’s Phone 1 and 2 will receive the Nothing OS 2.5 + Android 14 platform update, so users can rest assured that their device will be fully updated to the current iteration of Android. You can check for the Android 14 update by going to your Settings App > System > System Update. Meanwhile, the new Nothing Phone 2a will ship with Android 14 pre-installed.
