Google has rolled out the January 2024 monthly software update for supported Pixel devices running Android 14. The update will be released over the next week in phases based on carrier and device. Users will be notified when the over-the-air (OTA) update becomes available for their devices. The update, aimed at Pixel users, includes bug fixes and improvements.
The majority of newer Pixel devices are getting the update. Including the Pixel 5a (5G), Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro. Specific software versions are provided for the global version and Verizon. Users are encouraged to check and update their Android version as soon as possible. This not only ensures that your device is safe, but you get access to all the new features too.
The Android Security Bulletin details security fixes. Sorting the vulnerabilities based on severity and associated Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) references. As always, updating to the latest Android version is important. It also highlights Google’s active monitoring efforts through Google Play Protect to detect and warn users about potentially harmful applications.
Google is starting the year right with a security patch to address issues for Pixel users. Fixes for the Camera, system vulnerabilities, and other bugs are a bonus. The January patch is lighter compared to the previous month. There is mention of some anticipated features for future releases. Much like the highly anticipated features, such as a “Share Wi-Fi” option for Pixel devices.
