iPhone 15 Pro Max vs Pixel 7 Pro: Design and Build

Apple has changed the previously used aluminum frame with a titanium frame on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It is actually Grade 5 Titanium which is the same alloy used for spacecraft used for Mars missions. This results in the new iPhone being lighter than its predecessors. Ceramic Shield glass is still there which you will find on the front as well as the back.

The Pixel 7 Pro offers Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and the back along with an aluminum frame. Both smartphones are IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.

In terms of design, Apple has opted for the same approach as the previous iPhone Pro models including Dynamic Island. The only major difference is that it has replaced the Mute switch with a new Action Button. This button can be set to trigger particular apps and functions including Siri Shortcuts and muting the phone.

The Pixel 7 Pro does not have any changes to its design. It continues with the unique-looking rear camera module bar.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with Apple’s new A17 Pro processor. It is a 3nm hexa-core chipset featuring two cores clocked at 3.78GHz and four cores at 2.11GHz. There is a new hexa-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. It is capable of hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing which is expected to usher a new era of mobile gaming. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has 8GB of RAM along with 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options. The Pixel 7 Pro offers 8GB and 12GB RAM options as well as 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options.

It offers high-resolution zoom up to 8x, laser detection autofocus (LDAF), HDR, Night Sight, and 4K video recording. You also get a few AI-related features like Magic Eraser and Face Unblur.

The front camera on the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a 12MP camera with f/1.9 aperture. It also offers focus and depth control, Smart HDR 5, and 4K video recording. The Pixel 7 Pro selfie camera is a 10.8MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture, HDR, and 4K video recording.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s battery capacity has not been revealed officially but it is said to be 4,441mAh. Apple claims it can deliver up to 29 hours of offline video playback, up to 25 hours of streamed video playback, and up to 95 hours of audio playback.
The good news is it finally comes with a USB Type-C port with USB 3.0 speeds. However, the bundled cable is a USB 2.0 USB-C to USB-C cable. It further supports 15W MagSafe wireless charging and up to 7.5W Qi wireless charging.
The Pixel 7 Pro has a 5,000mAh battery with 23W wired fast charging support. It is also compatible with 7.5W Qi wireless charging. There is a USB-C port but it also comes bundled with a USB 2.0 USB-C to USB-C cable.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max ships with the latest iOS 17 out of the box. It comes with all the goodies that you expect from iOS including longer software support. Apple is known for releasing about five to six years of OS upgrades usually.

The Pixel 7 Pro boots Android 13 out of the box and is guaranteed to receive the upcoming Android 14 update. Google has promised OS software updates until at least October 2025 and security updates until at least October 2027.

If you have a limited budget or simply do not want to spend around $1,000 on a smartphone, the Pixel 7 Pro is a no-brainer.
