If there’s one good thing that came out of companies like Apple ditching the included charger with their phones, is that we’re starting to see a rise in third-party chargers. While third-party chargers have existed for a while, now that more companies are ditching the charger with their phones, it allows these third-party accessory makers to innovate and come up with new charging solutions that would be a more attractive alternative.
Enter Ugreen.
The company has made a name for itself over the years by creating some of the best mobile chargers in the market today, and recently the company has introduced a couple of brand new GaN chargers that we think could be worth checking out.
This comes in the form of the Ugreen Nexode RG 30W and Ugreen Nexode RG 65W USB-C GaN chargers, with the main difference being in their charging speeds, but everything else is identical. So what makes them so special? Well, read on to find out!
Cute LED display
Right off the bat, the new Ugreen Nexode RG chargers are clearly not your average charger. For starters, Ugreen has decided to include a built-in LED display. According to Ugreen, the display will show animated faces where different expressions correspond to different charging states.
This gives you a better idea of the status of your charging but in a fun and novel way. The company has also included a small set of magnetic feet that when put together with the charger, creates an appearance of a cute little robot. We know, it is as novel as it gets, but honestly if you’re looking for some decorations for your desk and you want it to be functional at the same time, this could fit the bill perfectly.
Fast and powerful charging
Like we said earlier, the main difference between both models are its charging speeds, where one offers up to 30W of power, while the other offers up to 65W of power. Depending on your needs and the number of devices, you could get away with just the 30W version or 65W if you need the extra boost.
With the 30W charger, Ugreen claims that it will be capable of powering up an iPhone 14 from 0% up to 60% in just 30 minutes, which is faster than Apple’s recommended 20W first-party charger which manages 0-50% in 30 minutes. The 65W might be more appropriate if you have more powerful devices, like a VR headset or a laptop, where Ugreen says it can charge up an M2 MacBook Air from 0-55% in just 30 minutes, which is pretty impressive if you ask us!
Another difference that we should point out is that the 30W model only comes with a single USB-C port, while the 65W model comes with two USB-C ports and a USB-A port, making it ideal if you have multiple devices that you need to charge at once.
Multiple safety features
There are concerns when it comes to using third-party chargers with our mobile devices and laptops. This is something many companies have hammered into our brains, but safety isn’t something you should be concerned about with Ugreen’s Nexode RG GaN chargers.
For starters, the use of GaN technology is already a huge plus in terms of safety. For those unfamiliar, GaN stands for gallium nitride. This is versus your more traditional chargers that use silicon components. GaN chargers have been designed to be better at heat management, which not only makes them safer, but also more efficient since less energy is lost to heat during the charging process.
Ugreen has also included safety features like its Thermal Guard Tech, where it takes over 238 temperature readings per second and has always-on temperature detection. This means that it is constantly monitoring itself to ensure that the charger stays within safe temperature ranges, so you never have to worry about it overheating and catching on fire or exploding.
