The wait for Android 14 continues – while Google’s next big OS upgrade is still nowhere to be seen (except for beta users), Pixel owners can finally download the September 2023 update, which comes with the monthly security patch.
The update will be available for several Pixel devices, which include the new Pixel Fold and Pixel tablet, Pixel 7 series, and Pixel 6 series. Older Pixel phones including the Pixel 5, 5a, and 4a 5G will also receive the update, although it skips the “regular” Pixel 4a, unfortunately. As per the statement on Google’s official support page:
We have provided the monthly software update for September 2023. All supported Pixel devices running Android 13 will receive these software updates starting today. The rollout will continue over the next week in phases depending on carrier and device. Users will receive a notification once the OTA is available for their device. We encourage you to check your Android version and update to receive the latest software.
Based on this, it looks like Google might launch Android 14 alongside the Pixel 8 series, which is scheduled to be unveiled on October 4. Currently, the only way to get Android 14 is via Google’s Beta program, which has since seen several patches make their way to testers.
Pixel users can head over to their Settings app > System > System Updates to check if the September 2023 patch is available for their phone.
