While it hasn’t been officially confirmed by Nintendo yet, the Switch 2 is probably one of the most talked-about tech products this past year, which we could say is unsurprising given the popularity of the current-generation Switch console. We’ve seen countless speculation surrounding Nintendo’s next-gen gaming system, which was mostly recently rumored to have been shown off behind closed doors at this year’s Gamescom.
As such, newly-revealed information suggests that game developer Activision already knew about the Switch successor as early as last year, according to multiple reports. This is based on new filings documented in the legal battle between the Federal Trade Commission and Microsoft.
A series of emails dating back from December 2022 indicate that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick previously met with Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa. The emails – originally sent by Activision’s Senior Vice President Chris Schnakenberg – contain nearly nine pages, albeit with redacted material. Interestingly enough, a note in the emails refers to the next-generation Switch console, stating:
Given the closer alignment to Gen8 platforms in terms of performance and our previous offerings on PS4 / Xbox One, it is reasonable to assume we could make something compelling for the NG Switch as well. It would be helpful to secure early access to development hardware prototypes and prove that out nice and early.
