Ugreen’s latest 300W Nexode GaN charger is a compact power house

These days, a lot of the gadgets we bring out with us require batteries. This includes our phones, our laptops, tablets, wireless headphones and earbuds, mice, and so on. This means that if you’re someone who works outside quite a bit and are constantly on the move, you might find yourself needing to charge these devices from time to time.

While a power bank might work for some devices, for more powerful gadgets like our laptops, it might not be enough. It would be unrealistic to bring a charger for each and every single one of our gadgets, which is why if you’re looking for the perfect all-in-one system, Ugreen might have something for you.

The company has announced its latest GaN charger that’s part of its Nexode series of GaN chargers, and this new model offers up to 300W of output, which is a lot of juice and should be more than capable of quickly charging up your devices in a single, compact package.

What are GaN chargers?

For those who are unfamiliar, you might be seeing the “GaN” term being used quite a bit to describe chargers these days. Basically, GaN chargers are an alternative to your typical charger that uses silicon-based components. One of the upsides to GaN chargers is that it allows chargers to be designed more compactly.

They are also better at handling heat which means less energy is lost to heat which in turn increases its efficiency. All of this results in a charger that not only works faster, but it is smaller and lighter and is perfect if you need to bring one around with you all the time.

Compact but powerful

One of the things you’ll notice about Ugreen’s 300W Nexode charger is that it is a relatively small charger as far as desktop chargers are concerned. We’re not saying that it’s tiny, but considering its massive power output of 300W and the fact that it supports up to five devices at once, it is pretty small, much smaller than your typical charger.

It measures 6.49 x 4.9 x 4.2-inches and weighs 868 grams. Its weight makes it the perfect charger for your desktop, but if you really needed to bring it with you on the go, like say you’re going overseas, you could still stuff it in your backpack or luggage and it won’t take up too much space.

Like we said, it supports up to five devices at once. There are four USB-C ports and a single USB-A port if you happen to have any legacy devices around that still rely on a USB-A. Keep in mind that each of the ports does offer different power outputs so if you need something to charge faster, you should plug it into the topmost port.

The topmost port offers up to 140W of power, while the second and third port offers up to 100W, the fourth port 45W, and the USB-A port offers up to 22.5W. With this much power offered, Ugreen claims that you should be able to juice up a 16-inch MacBook Pro from 0% up to 56% in a mere 30 minutes!

Considering that battery life is one of the selling points of the Apple Silicon-based laptops, 56% should be more than sufficient to allow you to finish up whatever you are working on, and then some.

There is also support for PD 3.1 and QC 3.0, so if you have a device that supports either of these charging protocols, you will be able to take advantage of the faster charging speeds.

Designed with safety in mind

Like we said earlier, one of the benefits of GaN chargers is that it is more efficient due to it being better at handling heat. This results in a charger that is generally speaking safer than your typical charger, but that does not mean that GaN chargers are 100% safe and will not explode or catch on fire.

With that in mind, Ugreen has built-in several protective features to ensure that users will be able to use their 300W Nexode charger without any of these worries.

This includes a premium design to the charger, where they have made it out of a fire-resistant and flame-retardant PVC material, so that in the event anything does happen and it catches on fire, any surrounding damage should be minimal as the flame-retardant material will help keep the fire in check. The use of the PVC shell also helps better protect the charger in the event of bumps and drops that might happen if you take it out with you.

On the inside, Ugreen is utilizing its Thermal Guard system. This essentially means that the charger will be constantly monitoring its temperature changes in real-time, taking as many as 6,000 readings per minute. With all this constant monitor, it knows when something isn’t right, whether it be overheating, overcharging, or if there is excessive current flowing through the charger itself.

Pricing & availability

If Ugreen’s latest 300W Nexode GaN charger is something you think you might be interested in, it is available for purchase from Amazon or Ugreen’s website. It is priced at $269, which is admittedly not cheap for a charger, but if you require all that power and need something for your desktop or maybe to bring with you on your travels, and also want something that’s safe, then this could be one of the best GaN chargers out there.
