Users can soon start WhatsApp chats with unknown numbers

One of the problems with WhatsApp right now is that if you need to message a new number, you’d have to save their number in your contacts first. This is not only troublesome, but also messy because you might end up with a lot of random contacts saved in your smartphone.

That could change soon in an upcoming update, according to a report from WABetaInfo. According to the report, it appears that WhatsApp is getting ready to push out an update that will allow users to start chats with numbers that aren’t saved in their contacts.

This means that if you need to message a business or an individual and don’t want to have to save their number first, you can simply by typing in their number. While some of you might not think that saving a contact is a good idea, as WABetaInfo notes, there could be privacy reasons as well because it could hide your profile photo if that’s important to you.

Right now, the only way to message an unknown number is if that person or company has a WhatsApp link on their website that will open a chat automatically, but since not everyone does that, it can be a mixed experience. There’s no word on when this feature will be rolled out, but if it’s spotted in the latest beta, hopefully we won’t have to wait too long.
