Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 Makes its Debut

0

Qualcomm recently unveiled a new addition to its smartphone chip lineup in the form of the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, its latest SoC designed for entry-level smartphones. While the 4-series chips are often intended for low-end phones, the 4 Gen 2 does come with some surprises up it sleeve.

For one, this Qualcomm’s first 4-series chip developed with a 4nm process, which should provide users with better overall performance, at least according to the company. The 4 Gen 2 will also come with support for decidedly “high-end” features, such as higher resolution 120Hz displays, 2.2 GHz speeds, and electronic image stabilization for photography.

Other features include integrated AI for low-light photos, noise cancellation during video calls, and Wifi 5 connectivity and fast-charging support.

This isn’t Qualcomm’s first foray into budget chipsets however – despite being more known for its high-end SoCs like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the company has also released a ton of chips meant for entry-level Android handsets in the past.

Qualcomm adds that it plans to launch the chip in market-ready devices by the later half of 2023, and has partnered with smartphone OEMs such as Vivo and Redmi to bring the 4 Gen 2 to Android users.
