It’s official – Qualcomm has finally announced the latest addition to its current Snapdragon mobile chip series, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. According to Qualcomm, the new chipset represents some of the best hardware and performance for gaming, photography, and more.

In terms of performance, the company says that it has designed the 7+ Gen 2 with the Qualcomm Kryo CPU and Qualcomm Adreno GPU for better overall performance, including up to 13% improvement in terms of power efficiency during daily usage. The chip will come with support for select Snapdragon Elite Gaming features like Auto Variable Rate Shading (VRS), Volumetric Rendering, and Snapdragon Sound with Qualcomm aptX for lossless music streaming and reduced lag during gaming sessions.

Photography is also a key area Qualcomm has focused on, as the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 features an 18-bit Triple ISP for better low-light photography. This works by snapping 30 images and merging them into a single shot with improved exposure and color vibrance. The chip also supports 200MP photo capture as well as staggered HDR video capture with triple exposure from two cameras simultaneously.

AI has also been big this year, and the 7+ Gen 2 makes use of modern artificial intelligence solutions. Qualcomm says that the integrated AI Engine features 2x improved AI performance with 40% better performance per Watt than its predecessor.

Also featured is the Qualcomm “Sensing Hub” with a dedicated AI processor, which works in contextually aware use cases like user activity recognition and acoustic scene detection. The new chip will also enable AI Super Resolution to intelligently upscale game scenes or photos for increased visual quality from a low-resolution image (1080p to 4K).

We can expect to see the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 in upcoming Redmi and Realme phones, with more commercial handsets to follow very soon.
