Xiaomi could finally be hopping on board the Wear OS bandwagon

0

Xiaomi, like many other companies, makes their own lineup of smartwatches. But the company’s wearables have all been powered by a custom operating system. While there is nothing wrong with this, there are some who might prefer if Xiaomi used Google’s Wear OS as it would make better integration with their smartphones.

The good news is that it looks like Xiaomi could finally be jumping on board the Wear OS train. This is according to a report from 9to5Google who was tipped off from one of their sources that Xiaomi could be developing a new smartwatch that would be powered by the Wear OS platform.

Not much is known about this device at the moment, but when it launches it will run on Wear OS 3 and will apparently be managed by the same Mi Fitness app. This means that users can look forward to the integration with Android, while still being able to control the watch using a familiar app.

That being said, it’s not necessarily good news. Google’s Wear OS platform is notorious for less-than-stellar battery life, so the switch to Wear OS could be disappointing for users who are used to Xiaomi’s wearables lasting for days at a time. This was the similar situation that some Samsung users faced when Samsung decided to go all in with Wear OS and stopped using Tizen for its wearables.
