The Pixel Tablet will double as a smart speaker

Today’s Pixel launch event was centered around the Pixel 7 series and the new Pixel Watch, but we also got another look at the upcoming Pixel Tablet. Unveiled initially at Google I/O 2022, the Pixel Tablet has a simple design with rounded corners, a single rear camera and a Nanoceramic finish on the device’s body. Google didn’t spend any time explaining the nanoceramic finish, but it should make it scratch and fingerprint-resistant.

Along with these new details on the hardware design, Google shared that the Pixel tablet will be powered by the same Tenco G2 chipset that is being used in the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, which should make it quite powerful and more than capable of delivering a smooth gaming experience, even with high-end games.

But Google’s main selling point for the Pixel Tablet will be how it’s used when it’s not in your hands. Since tablets are quite large and are used far less than our smartphones, Google’s decided to turn the Pixel Tablet into a smart display with the help of a magnetic charging speaker dock.

While we’ve seen Lenovo offer this same dual-function feature on several of its tables for the past few years, Google’s design of the Pixel Tablet appears to be more ergonomic and when docked on the magnetic speaker, the Pixel Tablet looks like it’s just a larger version of the Nest Hub Max.

Google still hasn’t shared how much the Pixel Tablet will cost or when exactly it will be available for purchase. All we know is that the device will be available in 2023.
