How to fix Android screen recording with no sound

Screen recording is a nifty feature available on every modern Android smartphone and tablet out there. It allows you to record a video of what you are doing on your phone. It is beneficial in various situations like creating a tutorial video, recording gameplays and walkthroughs, or sharing a video clip of an issue affecting your device.

However, you may experience situations where the screen recorder is recording the clip but not the audio. This can be a frustrating experience but we are here to help you. In this article, we will cover different possible reasons causing the issue and their respective solutions.

Check screen recording settings

The first and foremost step is to ensure you have enabled the correct screen recording settings. Google’s native screen recorder on Pixel phones and stock Android skin offers a dedicated setting called Record audio. It gives you three choices: Device audio, Microphone, and Device audio and microphone.

Device audio is the option for recording audio coming from the device like ringtones, calls, music, and videos. Microphone is for recording audio around you like you are speaking or something is making a sound around you. The last setting is for recording audio via the device as well as the microphone. So, make sure you have turned on the correct toggle based on where you want to record the sound from.

If you use a third-party screen recorder app, you should check its settings to make sure you have all the relevant correct settings enabled.

Restart the device

We know it is a running joke in the tech troubleshooting community but it is a solution that actually works more often than you can imagine. If you have all the correct settings turned on, simply restart your device. There is a good chance it would start recording audio while screen recording.

Check the app

The next step is to check the app you want to screen record. There are certain apps like Netflix and Spotify that do not allow audio recording due to licensing and copyright issues. You may be able to record sound using the microphone setting instead of device sound in some of these apps. You may end up with distorted sound in some apps even then. In short, the ability to record sound varies from app to app.

Try another screen recorder

If nothing worked for you so far, we would suggest visiting Google Play Store and trying other screen recorder apps. This is because the issue may be related to the native screen recorder or whatever third-party app you are using currently. There is a good possibility using some other app may work for you.
