Samsung putting together a new team to develop Galaxy-specific chipsets
Samsung making its own Exynos chipsets seemed like a move similar to Apple, where the company makes their own chipsets for their phones, tablets, and PCs. But unlike Apple’s chipsets, Samsung’s Exynos chipsets have not been looked upon favorably in the past few years, with many preferring Samsung phones with Qualcomm’s chipsets.
Now according to a report from The Elec, it seems that Samsung is forming a new division with the company which will see the team develop new application processor solutions for its own Galaxy series of phones.
At the moment, Samsung already has a separate sister company, Samsung System LSI, that develops the Exynos chipsets which are largely used for its own phones as well as developing hardware for other companies. With this new division, it would allow Samsung to focus on chipsets specifically for their own mobile devices and maybe come up with something that could compete better with Qualcomm’s offerings.
This is actually not the first time we’re hearing about this. Previously, there were rumors that Samsung was planning to develop Galaxy-specific chipsets, and now this report corroborates that. When exactly we will see these new hardware remains to be seen, but it probably won’t be in time for the Galaxy S23 in 2023 which is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
