Blood pressure measurement on a smartwatch is a feature that Apple has been rumored to be trying to bring to the Apple Watch, but to no avail. If that is a feature you’d love to see in a smartwatch, then you might be interested to learn that the Huawei Watch D will be making its way to Europe on the 12th of October.
For those who are hearing about the device for the first time, the Huawei Watch D was originally announced back in December 2021 and was one of the first smartwatches to come with support for blood pressure measurement. Huawei confirmed at IFA 2022 last month that they would be launching it in more markets, but stopped short of providing a date until now.
How the Watch D measures blood pressure is by building an air pump and air bag into the strap of the watch itself, which essentially functions in a similar way you might expect from a traditional blood pressure cuff. Huawei claims that it has a very low margin of error of 3 mmHg, but we haven’t tried it for ourselves so take it with a grain of salt.
Other features include a heart rate sensor, an ECG monitor, a 1.64-inch AMOLED display, IP68 rating, GPS, NFC, blood oxygen sensor, and a battery life that is apparently rated for up to 7 days. It will be priced at €449, so if you live in Europe, you should be able to get your hands on it next week.
