The Pixel 7 could be gaining its own “Cinematic Mode”

When the iPhone 13 was announced, Apple introduced a new camera feature called Cinematic Mode that gave users a nice depth-of-field effect when shooting videos, making it look more “cinematic”.

Now according to a report from 9to5Google, they spotted some additional leaked specs from a Taiwanese mobile carrier for Google’s upcoming Pixel 7, and one of the mentioned new features of the phone is called “Movie Motion Blur”. While not much else was revealed about the feature, the name itself sounds like Google could be bringing its own version of Cinematic Mode to its Pixel 7 smartphones.

Keep in mind that Apple’s Cinematic Mode isn’t exactly a new feature per se. Phones like those made by Samsung have a similar feature called Portrait Mode that can also be used in videos, giving users a bokeh-like effect when shooting videos. One of the features of Cinematic Mode is that during the editing process, users can make adjustments in case they changed their mind or if they did not capture it the way they intended.

We’re not 100% sure on how the Pixel 7’s Movie Motion Blur mode will work so we’ll have to wait for the official announcement to find out. We have to say we are quite excited by it given that Google’s camera software is usually top-notch. Either way, we’ll know more later this week so check back with us on the 6th of October for the details
