WhatsApp voice call support arrives on Wear OS 3 devices

0

Back in the day, you could only make or receive voice calls using your phone and a cellular connection, but these days, there are many instant messenger apps that support voice calls over cellular or WiFi connectivity. This means that users now have more ways of reaching their friends and family members.

For those who own a Wear OS 3 smartwatch, you might be interested to learn that in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android, it looks like users will now be able to receive WhatsApp voice calls via their smartwatch. Obviously receiving regular calls on a Wear OS smartwatch is a pretty basic feature, but it’s good to see that there will now be more options made available to users.

As 9to5Google has noticed, depending on the phone paired with your smartwatch, the UI could look slightly different. For example, receiving a WhatsApp call on a Wear OS 3 smartwatch paired with a Samsung phone, you will see the WhatsApp icon, but on other devices like the Pixel 6, it looks like you’re receiving a regular call.

Also, another thing to note is that for now, users can only receive WhatsApp calls and cannot make them through their smartwatch. We’re not sure if it’s because it’s still a beta feature or if WhatsApp is only planning on allowing for one-way communication, but hopefully once the feature is released to the general public, users will be able to make and receive WhatsApp calls through their smartwatch.
