Latest figures show Samsung is continuing to dominate the smartphone market

0

Samsung was one of the early players in the smartphone market, and unlike most of their competition, they have stuck around and continue to produce handsets until this day. In fact, assuming the latest figures from Canalys is accurate, it seems that Samsung is still very much in the lead after all these years.

According to Canalys, Samsung shipped nearly 60 million smartphones in Q2 2022 alone, capturing a whopping 21% of the global smartphone market. This is also an increase over their performance last year where they held about 18% of the market, and it seems that Samsung has the Galaxy S22 series and Galaxy A series to thank for that.

The figures also reveal that Samsung’s chief competitor, Apple, managed 17% of the market, putting Samsung 4% ahead. Xiaomi also managed to place in third with 14% of the market, putting them quite a fair bit behind Samsung. This is also a drop from the previous year where Xiaomi actually held about 17% of the market.

It shouldn’t be too surprising that Samsung is able to maintain its lead. The Galaxy S-series of phones are some of the most popular smartphones in the market today, plus with Samsung creating devices for all kinds of budgets and needs, they are able to cover pretty much the entire market.

It would have been interesting to see where Samsung would be today had Huawei stuck around. The Chinese company recently made comments suggesting that they would have knocked Samsung out of most major markets if they were sanctioned by the US government.
