One of the biggest advantages of using modern wearable devices is that they’re able to receive software updates that enhance performance or add new functionality. With that said, a new software update for the Fitbit Charge 5 has finally been released, which adds a new feature to the fitness band.
The new update, which comes with firmware version number 1.171.50, adds a “Find Phone” feature, which was spotted by the folks over at 9to5Google. This works by prompting your phone to emit a loud sound once you enable the app on the Charge 5. However, there is some limitation with the feature, which requires the following:
- Your watch must be connected (“paired”) to the phone you want to locate.
- Your phone must have Bluetooth turned on and be within 30 feet (10m) of your Fitbit device.
- The Fitbit app must be running in the background on your phone.
- Your phone must be turned on.
Launched back in 2021, the Charge 5 differs from Fitbit’s Versa line of smartwatches by offering a smaller size more akin to most fitness bands out on the market. It comes with a 1-inch AMOLED touchscreen, Bluetooth, NFC, as well as built-in GPS, and up to 50m water resistance for swimming sessions.
