Nothing Phone (1)’s chipset of choice has been confirmed

Nothing has been steadily teasing its upcoming smartphone, the Nothing Phone (1). It started out with the design of the phone, then some additional features were revealed during a brief hands-on with popular tech YouTuber MKBHD, and now it looks like the chipset the phone will be using has been revealed as well.

This is according to an exclusive report from Input where Nothing has confirmed that the Nothing Phone (1) will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chipset. For those who are feeling a little disappointed that we’re not seeing a flagship chipset, keep in mind that the rumors have long suggested that the phone would be a mid-ranger, so the decision to use the Snapdragon 778G+ is hardly comes as a surprise.

We expect that future Nothing phones will eventually make their way up to higher-end chipsets, but for its first phone and we imagine to help keep costs of production down, the company has opted to use a mid-range Qualcomm chipset, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing as the Snapdragon 778G+ is a custom chipset.

According to Nothing, Qualcomm added features like wireless and reverse wireless charging, features that you would normally find in Qualcomm’s flagship chipsets, so while its performance might be mid-ranged, some of its features aren’t. The Nothing Phone (1) will be officially revealed on the 12th of July where the phone is rumored to be priced starting at $400 and will only be available for purchase through an invite system.
