While HTC is no longer the massive smartphone player that it once was, the company does surprise us from time to time with new smartphones that seem to launch sporadically. Earlier this month, the company teased a new metaverse-focused smartphone, which has since been officially unveiled as the HTC Desire 22 Pro.
Starting with the specs of the phone, the Desire 22 Pro by all accounts seems like a mid-ranger. We’re talking about a 6.6-inch FHD+ 120Hz display, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, a 4,520mAh battery with 18W wired charging, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset powering the handset.
In terms of features, HTC has billed this phone to be metaverse-focused and how they are going about it is that the handset can be paired with the HTC Vive Flow headset for VR functionality. The description on HTC Taiwan’s website also suggests that the phone could be used as a wallet to hold crypto assets and also comes bundled with a free NFT.
To be honest we’re not sure what is so metaverse about this phone that other phones couldn’t do, but if you’re a fan of HTC and wouldn’t mind getting your hands on it, it is priced at £399 and is expected to ship out on the 1st of August.
