GPD XP Plus Now Available for Pre-Order

A while back, we mentioned that a new portable gaming device from GPD was on its way to the market. The handheld runs on Android, and is set to take on competing devices like the Steam Deck, and the Nintendo Switch.

The GPD XP Plus is currently available for pre-order in China, and comes in four different variants, each with different pricing. If you’re outside China though and would like to order one, you can purchase the GPD XP Plus directly via Indiegogo, which comes in a 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant priced at around $339, and a 6GB and 256GB model which goes for around $375.

In terms of hardware, the XP Plus is pretty impressive with its 6.81-inch display, MediaTek 1200 Dimensity SoC, as well as a 7,000 mAh battery and support for USB-C connection.

GPD has developed a well-established reputation of bringing high-performance handheld devices to the market, as the company has also produced a variety of Windows-powered portable PCs, in addition to their Android handhelds.

Dedicated Android gaming systems have always been an interesting prospect. While well-known companies like Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft have established their dominance on the gaming industry with their consoles, smaller challengers like the ill-fated Ouya, and Nvidia’s impressive Shield Tablet for example, have attempted to disrupt the status quo.

With all that said, the GPD XP Plus should nonetheless provide a nice alternative to the myriad of gaming handhelds out on the market right now.
