Quick phrases for Google Assistant on the Pixel 6 now supports more languages

0

One of the problems with digital assistants is that sometimes talking to them doesn’t feel as intuitive compared to a person, but that’s kind of to be expected. Google has tried to take away some of this awkwardness with quick phrases, which are basically words that can trigger actions without saying, “Hey Google”.

Now according to an updated support document, Google has added support for more languages for its quick phases. This means that if you don’t speak English natively or if your phone’s language is set to something else, Google Assistant will be able to recognize those quick phrases in a different language. According to Google, this will work for:

  • In English (US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, Singapore), French (France and Canada), German (Germany), Italian (Italy), Spanish (Spain, US), Japanese (Japan).
  • On Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro when you have one language selected.

At the moment it seems that it is only available for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, but hopefully Google will eventually expand its availability to its old smartphones and maybe even non-Pixel devices that also use Google Assistant. It’s good to see that Google is expanding support for languages other than English, although admittedly the list of supported languages is still pretty short.

Google Assistant quick phrases aren’t an entirely new feature. It was previously only available on Google’s smart speakers and smart displays before making its way onto the Pixel 6 back in 2021, so hopefully come Google I/O 2022, the company will have more Google Assistant improvements and changes they will announce.
