Samsung’s CEO apologizes for Galaxy S22 throttling issues

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series of smartphones is the company’s latest and greatest devices, or at least that’s what we thought until it was discovered that Samsung had preinstalled an “optimization” software on its phones that not only couldn’t be removed, but it was discovered that it actually throttled the performance of some apps.

Now it seems that at Samsung Electronics’ 54th annual shareholders’ meeting, Samsung DX CEO JH Han bowed in apology to shareholders over the controversy that stemmed from the company’s decision to include the app that throttled the performance of over 1,000 apps and games.

During Han’s apology, he acknowledged that Samsung had failed to understand the concerns customers had over app and gaming performance. He also reiterated that the app was designed to optimize the performance of the phone, although it ended up having the opposite effect.

Han also denied the allegations that the app is part of Samsung’s cost-cutting efforts, stating that Samsung does not compromise on quality in a bid to reduce costs. According to Samsung’s earlier statements, the company said that the GOS app was meant to prevent their devices from overheating.

Samsung has since rolled out an update that allows users to disable the app, although some customers feel that the option to remove the app entirely should be given to them.
