Oppo SUPERVOOC MWC 2022 - 3

Oppo announces 150W SUPERVOOC that can charge your phone in just 15 minutes

On one hand, it seems that smartphone makers have pretty much capped out at using battery sizes between 4500mAh and 5000mAh when it comes to flagship phones. But on the other, a few companies continue to innovate on the charging technology making it so we can juice our phones up faster than ever before. Oppo is one of the companies leading the way, and at MWC 2022, Oppo has introduced a new and incredible charging technology.

Last year, Oppo introduced its VOOC Flash Charge technology, which can charge a 4500mAh battery from 0-100% in just 30 minutes. Today, Oppo has announced its SUPERVOOC which takes things even further.

SUPERVOOC reaches speeds of up to 150W, taking the same 4500mAh battery from 0-50% in just five minutes while reaching 100% in just FIFTEEN minutes. But it does so in a charger that is slightly larger than the existing 65W SUPERVOOC adapter, and quite a bit smaller than Apple’s new 61W USB-C charger.

But charging phones this fast definitely comes with a risk, as you don’t want to heat up the battery too quickly which can end in disaster. That’s why Oppo has developed its Battery Health Engine which is described as such:

“It is based on OPPO’s customized battery management chip and includes two key technologies: Smart Battery Health Algorithm and Battery Healing Technology. The Battery Health Engine improves the health and safety of batteries by optimizing the underlying algorithm and chemistry system of the battery’s structure.”

The technology works in tandem with a battery management chip that will monitor the following pieces of information:

This chip, paired with Oppo’s Smart Battery Health Algorithm will work to ensure that your phone is charged safely. It also implements a failsafe that will activate in the event that something goes wrong to avoid ending up with a phone that won’t charge at all. Additionally, Oppo confirmed that through its testing, the Battery Health Engine was able to allow a battery to retain up to 80% of its capacity after 1,600 charging cycles, which is double the limits found in current phones.

Another area where Oppo is leading the way in the world charging is with its AIRVOOC wireless charging technology. The company has announced that the Find X5 Pro includes AIRVOOC, and can reach peak wireless charging speeds of 50W. This will take the phone’s 5,000mAh battery from 0-100% in just 47 minutes.

Oppo’s new 150W SUPERVOOC charger is compatible with both Power Delivery (PD) and Programmable Power Supply (PPS). The former is found in many of the best chargers out there, while the latter is primarily found in the best Galaxy phones, making it a bit more difficult to find the right Galaxy S22 charger.

This technology is simply incredible, and we can’t wait to get our hands on it to see how well it works in the “real world”.
