Motorola Edge+ 2022 arrives in the U.S. with flagship specs and stylus support

0

Some of us here in the U.S. have been waiting and waiting for a proper flagship option from Motorola. The company has released similar devices in countries abroad, including one of the first phones to be released with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. Well, the wait is finally over as the Motorola Edge+ (2022) is finally coming.

The phone features a 6.7-inch pOLED display with an FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. Touch-sampling gets bumped up to 360Hz, and this is an HDR10+ certified display so you’ll enjoy your favorite movies and shows on this screen.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 provides the juice, and you can get either 8GB or 12GB of RAM with up to 512GB of expandable storage. Battery life should be able to last you through the day with the 4,800mAh cell, but if you can’t make it to the finish line on a single charge, the Edge+ (2022) sports 30W TurboPower wired charging and 15W Qi wireless charging.

  • Display: 6.7-inch pOLED (2400 x 1080)
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
  • RAM: 8GB / 12GB
  • Storage: 128GB / 256GB / 512GB
  • Front Camera: 60MP, f/2.2, 0.6μm
  • Rear Cameras: 50MP OIS, f/1.8 (wide) / 50MP, f/2.2, 114-degree FoV (ultra-wide) / 2MP, f/2.4, (depth)
  • Battery: 4,800mAh
  • Software: ColorOS 12.1 (based on Android 12)
  • IP Rating: IP52
  • Extras: 144Hz Refresh Rate / HDR10+ / Stylus Support / 30W TurboPower Wired Charging / 15W Wireless Charging / Under-display Fingerprint Scanner / microSD Card Slot

Along with providing flagship power, Motorola is also attempting to bring the heat in the camera department. There’s a 60MP selfie camera found at the top of the display, but that’s not the story here. Moving to the back of the phone, we have a triple camera setup with dual 50MP lenses for your wide-angle and ultra-wide shots. Accompanying these lenses is a rather paltry and basic 2MP depth sensor.

But if you looked through the list of specs above, you’ll notice something unique and different about the Motorola Edge+ (2022) – stylus support. It seems that Motorola took a page out of Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra playbook, as the Edge+ (2022) is compatible with Motorola’s new stylus. The company states that you’ll be able to use the stylus just as you would expect, including turning your phone into a digital notebook or marking up a PDF before sending it off. There is also the ability to set favorite apps that will appear as soon as the stylus is taken out of its case.

That brings us to the “limitation” of the stylus support, and that’s because you won’t get the stylus in the box in all markets. Instead, Motorola states that it will be sold separately as part of a new folio case, but in select countries, the phone will ship with the stylus and case in the box. At the time of this writing, we are unsure as to what countries will, and will not, get the stylus included.

Those wondering about price don’t have to worry about any tricks here. The Motorola Edge+ (2022) will be available soon with a retail price of $999. However, when the phone launches, you’ll be able to instantly save $100 and get it for $899. Additionally, Motorola states the phone will come to North America through Best Buy, Amazon, and Motorola.com at launch while arriving at various carriers including Verizon (in the coming months).
