How to set up Amazon Alexa Voice Profiles for your family

0

Smart speakers are great tools for doing things like setting reminders, checking the news, shopping, and more. If you live alone, this isn’t an issue but if you live with multiple people like housemates or family members, then requests to digital assistants can get confusing because a request made by one family member might be different from another.

With Amazon’s Alexa, the company has actually introduced the ability to create individual Voice Profiles. This not only lets Alexa recognize who is asking the question, but can also tailor their responses based on that’s person’s settings, shopping history, and more. If you have kids, this could also be a safety feature because the responses it gives will be more age-appropriate.

Setting up Alexa Voice Profiles

  1. Launch the Alexa app on your phone
  2. Tap the menu button in the corner of the app and tap on Settings
  3. Go to Your Profile section and tap Voice
  4. Tap Add Your Voice
  5. You’ll be presented with privacy details, tap Consent if you agree
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions that will ask you to record a phrase that will identify your voice
  7. Tap Done

The steps listed above will help create a Voice Profile that’s unique to you, so the next time you ask Alexa for something, whether it’s for a flash briefing, shopping, music, calling or messaging, it will be tailored to you. If you want to add family members or other voices, then here’s what you need to do.

  1. Download the Alexa app onto the other person’s device
  2. Sign into the Amazon account used to set up the Alexa device
  3. Ask them to select I’m someone else
  4. Enter their name or select their name from the list if you have already added them
  5. Tap on Settings in the app
  6. Tap on Your Voice
  7. Ask them to follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Voice Profile set up and they’re done
  8. Repeat the process with other family or household members until you’re done
