Late last year, a surprise app made its entrance onto Samsung’s Galaxy Store, which completely transforms how you can snap photos using the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The Expert RAW app essentially transforms the Galaxy S21 Ultra into a professional camera, as it allows you to take pictures in 16-bit RAW formats, along with providing all of the tools that professionals look for in a “Pro Mode”.
During last week’s Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung took some time to show off its Expert RAW app and how it can take advantage of the updated camera hardware coming with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The app itself looks pretty darn great and is something that everyone would want to try out at some point, despite the fact that it’s not pre-installed on devices.
There is a catch, however, as it seems that Expert RAW will not be available for all of Samsung’s devices. On the bright side, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as Samsung Support has confirmed that the Expert RAW app will officially be launched on February 25, and will bring support for more devices.
In the post (via TizenHelp), a moderator claims that the company will provide a compatibility list for the app ahead of the release, which also coincides with the launch date for the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Unfortunately, it appears that the app will only be compatible with “top models”, which could just mean the best Samsung flagship phones from the last couple of years. This means that those who are using Galaxy “A” series of devices likely won’t be able to enjoy what the Expert RAW can offer.
We’re even a bit suspicious that the app won’t be made available on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, as the camera hardware is definitely outdated compared to the rest of the Galaxy S phones released in the last 2 to 3 years. We’ll have to wait and see what the final product looks like, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed that it will actually be available for many of Samsung’s best phones.
