Samsung one-ups Google with four years of promised major updates for its phones

One of the reasons why some iPhone owners tend to hold onto their devices longer than Android users is because Apple actually updates its older devices. Take for example iOS 15 which is supported by devices dating back to 2015 with the iPhone 6s. This means that the handset has actually been supported with new software features for the past 6-ish years.

This is versus Android devices where we typically see anywhere between 2-3 years of major updates, but that is expected to change with Samsung’s newer handsets, because the company has announced during its Galaxy S22 event that they will now be providing their phones with at least four years of major Android updates along with five years of security updates.

This is even better than what Google offers customers of its Pixel series of phones, where with the latest Pixel 6 that features the use of Google’s Tensor chipset, Google is only offering three years of major updates and five years of security. The best part is that this change in Samsung’s handling of updates will also apply to its 2021 smartphones.
