Skagen Falster Gen 6 coming soon but without Wear OS 3, for now

Despite being announced in August of last year, you have not yet been able to get your hands on the Skagen Falster Gen 6. This likely has to do with the ongoing global chip shortage and the apparent uncertainty of the upgrade to Wear OS 3. However, Fossil is re-announcing the Falster, providing a complete list of specs along with some more details about availability.

It comes as no surprise that the Skagen Falster lineup of smartwatches is some of the most sleek-looking options available. The Falster Gen 6 is no different, as it’s equipped with a 1.28-inch touchscreen display, complete with a rotating home button and customizable side buttons.

This marks the latest smartwatch to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100+, offering much-needed performance enhancements and battery optimizations. Speaking of battery life, Fossil states that the Falster Gen 6 will be able to provide more than 24 hours on a single charge. This is done via the different built-in battery modes, including Extended Battery Mode which essentially removes all of the “smarts” from your watch.

In terms of charging capabilities, the Falster Gen 6 will be able to reach about 80% in just 30 minutes. Not only is this helpful to ensure that you can make it throughout the day, but you’ll also be able to throw the watch on your charger before you go to bed. This makes it possible to enjoy the built-in sleep tracking functionality without needing to leave your watch on the charger overnight.

Other features of the Falster Gen 6 include a swimproof rating, at up to 3ATM. The casing size measures 41mm for all models, however, this is compatible with both 20mm and 22mm watch bands to fit your needs. Skagen is also launching the Gen 6 in silver, rose-gold, charcoal, and black, to go along with steel mesh, leather, or silicone bands.

The biggest question that potential Falster Gen 6 owners likely have comes down to when Wear OS 3 will arrive. Unfortunately, this new smartwatch will ship with Wear OS 2 in tow, but the company states that Wear OS will arrive on the Gen 6 sometime over the course of 2022. Considering that the Galaxy Watch 4 remains the only Wear OS 3-enabled smartwatch, we’re getting pretty impatient with the unspoken hold that Samsung has on the software. Skagen confirmed that the Falster Gen 6 will go on sale later this month and will be available through its website.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the Samsung Smart Home Hub comes to the U.S.
