OnePlus Buds Z2 offer a new design, ANC, and a sub-$100 price tag

OnePlus has been expanding its reach beyond just offering smartphones over the past few years. Earlier this year, for example, we saw the OnePlus Watch hit certain markets, but headphones are another space where the company is trying to gain a foothold. With the OnePlus Buds Z, offering a sub-$50 listening experience, making them one of the more interesting sets of headphones to hit the market. And now, the OnePlus Buds Z2, the company is releasing some new headphones that are nestled right in between the Buds Z and Buds Pro.

  • 11mm Dynamic drivers
  • 40dB Active Noise Cancellation
  • Transparency Mode
  • IP55 (earbuds) / IPX4 (charging case)
  • Triple microphone array
  • USB-C Charging
  • Bluetooth 5.2
  • 38 hours of battery life w/ Flash Charge (5 hours in 10 minutes)
  • Size: 33 x 22.4 x 21.8mm (buds), 73.15 x 36.8 x 29.1mm (case)
  • Weight: 4.5g (buds), 40.5g (case)

The OnePlus Buds Z2 takes some of the best features from the Buds Pro, including the addition of Active Noise Cancellation. This is pretty impressive given the $99 price tag, and the claims that they offer up to 40dB ANC to go along with the 11mm dynamic drivers. OnePlus also includes a trio of microphones built into each earbud, ensuring that whoever is on the other end of the phone call will be able to hear you perfectly.

As has been the case for years now, at least here in the U.S., OnePlus has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to charging capabilities. For example, the OnePlus 9 Pro not only can charge up to speeds of 65W when connected to a wire, but it can also take advantage of 50W wireless charging speeds. We’ve been seeing OnePlus’ implementation of faster-charging speeds in its headphone lineup for a little while now, and the Buds Z2 continue that trend. The company claims you’ll be able to take advantage of “Flash Charge” which offers five hours of listening time in just 10 minutes.

Another area where OnePlus has changed up the Buds Z2 compared to its predecessor is in the design. The Buds Z2 offers a stem that is 15% shorter, along with offering IP55 water and dust resistance rating. And to really ensure that sweat and water won’t penetrate your earbuds, there’s a hydrophobic nano-coating to provide extra protection. Even the included charging case sports an IPX4 water resistance rating so your case won’t get messed up if some rain or sweat gets into it.

Along with the great and familiar design, OnePlus is providing plenty of customization options, if you want them. After downloading the new-and-improved HeyMelody app, you’ll be able to switch between the two different ANC modes, along with using a fit test to ensure that you are using the right ear-tips with the Buds Z2.

Pricing for the OnePlus Buds Z2 starts at just $99 in the U.S. and CAD $149 in Canada. They are available starting today from either Amazon or from OnePlus directly. OnePlus is also offering two different color options, with the Pearl White available now and the Obsidian Black coming sometime in “early 2022”.
