It was only a matter of time, but it seems that Motorola has beaten Xiaomi to the punch. The Moto Edge X30 has just been announced, marking the first smartphone to be released using Qualcomm’s newest flagship chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was announced just a few short weeks ago, as it aims to provide the power for many upcoming flagships.
With the Moto Edge X 30, the device features a 6.7-inch OLED display along with an FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz variable refresh rate. Paired with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
- Display: 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
- RAM: 8GB / 12GB
- Storage: 128GB / 256GB
- Front Camera: 60MP
- Rear Cameras: 50MP (wide) / 50MP (ultrawide) / 2MP (depth)
- Battery: 5,000mAh
- Extras: 68W fast charging, NFC, 144Hz refresh rate, Stereo speakers
- Software: Android 12
On the camera front, we have a triple camera setup on the back headlined by a 50MP wide-angle lens. This is accompanied by a 50MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP depth sensor.
Moving to the selfie camera, this is where things get a little weird. The “normal” version of the Edge X30 sports a 60MP front-facing shooter. But Motorola is also releasing a special edition version that sports an under-display camera, called the Moto Edge X30 Under-Screen Camera Version. This special edition model is only available with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and is priced at CNY 3999 (~$627).
Other features of the Moto Edge X30 include a 5,000mAh battery complete with ultra-fast 68W charging speeds. NFC is also on board, so you’ll be able to use your phone for mobile payments if you want. Finally, the phone is running Motorola’s MYUI 3.0 skin based on Android 12. This also marks the first non-Pixel phone to launch with the latest version of Android.
The standard Edge X30 is available in different configurations with the 8GB / 128GB model starting at ~$502 and going up to around $565 if you want more RAM and storage. You won’t find a microSD card slot, so you’ll need to pick the configuration that works for you.
Motorola confirmed the Moto Edge X30 will be available for purchase in China starting on December 15. Unfortunately, there was no mention of a potential global release, but we expect the phone to arrive in more regions under a different name.
