DxOMark ranks the Pixel 6 Pro just behind the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max

After a down year in 2020 with the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5, Google has returned to the halls of smartphone photography glory with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Google finally revamped the camera hardware on both devices, with the latter sporting a triple-camera array comprised of a 50MP primary lens, 12.5MP ultra-wide, and a 48MP telephoto sensor. Nick has already been putting the Pixel 6 Pro through its paces, comparing it to the likes of the iPhone 13 Pro, OnePlus 9 Pro, and Galaxy S21 Ultra.

But as is the case with every major new smartphone release, DxOMark has published its review and ranking for the Pixel 6 Pro, placing it in the top three, just behind the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. DxOMark shares that in order to reach this score, it used over 3,000 images and over 2.5 hours of video across different scenes and scenarios.

With an overall score of 135, the Pixel 6 Pro sees a 143 rating in the Photo department, a 71-point rating in Zoom, and 115 in video recording.

What makes this even more exciting is now that Google is in control of the hardware and software, the company could issue updates to “fix” some of the problems detailed. It’s obvious that Google is the king when it comes to image processing, so perhaps future updates will alleviate some of the pain points that you could come across.
