Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 could be more boring than we expected

Earlier in the week, Samsung decided to announce a “Galaxy Unpacked Part 2“, but didn’t provide any indication as to what the company would be showing off. The first thought many had would be that we were going to be introduced to the Galaxy S21 FE, but that has been refuted by a few leakers already. So what else is it that Samsung could be taking the time to “reveal”?

Since the announcement, Samsung has published a new YouTube video to its official channel, while being named “Get ready to unfold something unmistakably you”. In the 19-second video, we can see a little robot entering a room called “Galaxy Studio”. From here, the color palette knob is being adjusted, and with every change in color, the outfits on the robots also change.

Looking at the clues and the video itself, we can only surmise that this might have something to do with being able to create custom color themes for your Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. And even when you head over to the Samsung website, the header for the event shows both the Flip 3 and Fold 3, and no other devices.

It would appear as though Samsung is about to make it possible for you to create a custom color theme for your Galaxy Z Fold 3, if not both devices. This isn’t anything new, at least from what we know at this moment, as you could order custom hinge colors with the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Perhaps we’re about to get the same option for the 2021 foldable smartphone lineup, but it does feel a bit odd to do so at this point.

Maybe folks have been holding off on grabbing the Fold 3 or Flip 3 because the color options are somewhat limited, at least for the Fold 3. But this definitely feels like something that Samsung could have or should have offered when the devices were originally announced.

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event is slated to kick off on October 20th at 10 a.m. ET, so we don’t have much longer to wait. Plus, we have both an Apple and Google event before then, so perhaps Samsung is trying to steal some spotlight ahead of the 2021 holiday season.
