You may not be able to buy the Galaxy Buds 2 until later this week, but that hasn’t stopped Samsung from pushing the first software release to the new earbuds. This really is nothing new, as we saw Samsung release an update to the Galaxy Watch 4 last week with a few minor tweaks and bug fixes.
In the update rolling out to the Galaxy Buds 2 (via TizenHelp), the update now enables ambient sound during a phone call. This means that you’ll be able to still hear what’s going on around you, even if you’re on a phone call.
Another feature being added to the Buds 2 is one that was available with the Galaxy Buds+ and Galaxy Buds Pro. If you dive into the “Labs” section of the Galaxy Wearable app, you can toggle the ability to double-tap the edge of each earbud. When doing so, this provides another method for adjusting the volume, without having to pull out your phone or mess around with the sound settings on your smartwatch.
Finally, Samsung has added the ability to customize the ANC levels on a per earbud basis. Before, it was an all-or-nothing approach when it came to enabling ANC, but once the update hits your Galaxy Buds 2, you’ll have a bit more control.
This update is first arriving in Samsung’s home country of South Korea, weighs in at 2.97MB in size, and sports a version number of R177XXU0AUH2. Samsung has a tendency of pushing software updates in its home country before making the update available more widely. So we would expect this to land for more Buds 2 owners over the next week or so.
As a reminder, you can still pre-order the Galaxy Buds 2 ahead of their release on Friday. The headphones are priced at $150, include ANC, solid battery life, and come in four different colors.
