Future Google chipsets could feature the use of AMD’s GPUs
According to the recent rumors, one of the features we can look forward to with the Google Pixel 6 is that the handset will officially debut Google’s own mobile chipset. The chipset is codenamed Whitechapel and will see Google join the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Huawei, all of whom make their own phones and design their own chipsets.
But it seems that Whitechapel is just the start of Google’s ambitions because according to a report from Wccftech, apparently future chipsets from Google could see the company team up with AMD and use their GPUs.
If this sounds familiar, it is because a while back Samsung and AMD announced a similar partnership, and recently leaked benchmarks have shown that using AMD’s GPUs is giving Samsung’s unannounced chipset a huge advantage in terms of performance. Unfortunately not much else is known about Google’s future chipsets, but it could be something to keep an eye on.
As for Whitechapel, the report claims that Google’s intention isn’t to create a competitor to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 or 888 Plus or even 2022’s 895, but rather the company will be using their chipset for machine learning and AI performance. Either way, we won’t know more until Google makes the announcement, so take all this with a grain of salt for now.
