We are seeing more and more phone makers integrate a dedicated Gaming Mode into the software of new devices. OnePlus is no different with the OnePlus 9 and OxygenOS. There’s a built-in Games app that provides quick access to all of your installed games, but also has a few extra tools available.
When loading up a game, you can take advantage of the Gaming Tools by swiping down from the top left or top right corners. From here, you’ll be able to view things like the time, the temperature of your phone, and remaining battery. There are also quick toggles for turning notifications on or off, along with entering the “Pro Gaming Mode”. When this is enabled, all of your notifications and phone calls will be blocked, and background usage for other apps will be restricted. This is done to boost the performance of the game that you are trying to play, without worrying about anything in the background taking up precious resources.
From the aforementioned toolbar, OxygenOS also includes two toggles to record the gameplay via screen recording and to rewind the recording. These are just two nice little additions, especially for those who want to show off the sick trick-shot they just pulled off in case nobody would believe them.
