When Apple announced that the iPhone 12 would not come with earphones or a charger, many were quick to mock the company, one of them being Samsung who is Apple’s chief rival in the smartphone space. It seems though, that Samsung’s mockery of Apple is merely for show because come 2021, the company could be more than eager to adopt a similar practice.

According to a report from SamMobile, they cite the Korean media who claims that for the Samsung Galaxy S21, Samsung will apparently be ditching the included accessories like earphones and the charger. Some believe that the charger could remain, but the earphones could be removed.

Apple claimed that the move was done to have a more positive impact on the environment. The company said that by not including these accessories, it allowed them to create a smaller box for the iPhone, which in turn uses less materials and also allows them to fit more units onto a shipping pallet, thus reducing the amount of trips they need to make.

Cynics might argue that this is done for profits as well, since the prices of the new iPhones are still pretty through the roof. That being said, in all honesty we all have charging adapters at home already, so it’s not like we really need a new one anyway, right?
