Several years ago, following the disastrous launch of the Galaxy Note 7 in which we came across multiple reports of it exploding, Samsung decided to try and salvage it as much as they could be launching the Galaxy Note 7 FE (Fan Edition). This was basically the same phone, minus the exploding batteries.
More recently, Samsung announced the Galaxy S20 FE which is basically a slightly more dumbed down version of the regular Galaxy S20 at a much more affordable price, and if you’re actually kind of digging this new strategy of Samsung, you’ll be pleased to learn that the company has more such devices for the future.
During Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event, Clare Hunter, Global Strategy at Samsung Electronics, was quoted as saying:
“As a tribute to our Galaxy fans, we’re setting a new standard of making uncompromising flagship innovations accessible to as many people as possible. And we’ll continue to launch Fan Editions of our flagship devices in the years to come.”
This is great news for customers because from what we can tell with the Galaxy S20 FE, it packs similar-ish hardware but at a more affordable price. For those who can’t afford or don’t want to pay the premium on a brand new flagship phone from Samsung, holding out for a Fan Edition might be a good idea.
We’re not sure if there are plans for a Note 20 FE, but know that the Galaxy S20 FE isn’t the last of the Fan Editions we’ll be seeing.
