The Google Pixel 5 won’t be the flagship we were hoping for
Google’s Nexus and Pixel smartphones typically come with flagship hardware, and given their pure Android experience, they are pretty attractive devices. Unfortunately, if you were hoping that this year’s Pixel 5 will be packing some high-end hardware, think again because the rumors are suggesting otherwise.
According to a report from Android Central, it appears that this year’s Pixel 5 smartphone will not be coming with high-end hardware. Instead of being powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, it seems that the handset will be packing the Snapdragon 765G chipset.
It will also apparently be sporting a 6-inch display, making it smaller than the Pixel 4 XL’s 6.3-inch screen, but it will be retaining the 90Hz refresh rate. As to why Google is not including higher-end specs, it is possible that they want to keep the price of the phone competitive.
Phones these days, especially flagships, are crossing the $1,000 mark and by giving the phone mid-range hardware, Google could price it a bit more competitively and appeal to a wider audience. We are starting to see that mid-rangers are gaining more appeal these days, so perhaps that’s the market that Google is hoping to capture. Take this with a grain of salt, but check back with us in September because that’s when the Pixel 5 is expected to be announced.
