How to SIM unlock the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra

Phones these days are becoming increasingly expensive, and as such, if you bought the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra from a carrier on a contract, it totally makes sense. But we also get how being locked to a carrier can feel restrictive, so short of buying your way out of the contract, here’s how you can actually get your Galaxy S20 Ultra SIM unlock code.

Now, one of those options is to get your free SIM unlock code from your carrier where you’ll need to meet certain requirements, and the other will be to use a third-party service such as Movical.

To get your free SIM unlock code from your carrier, there will be several requirements that you will need to meet in order to get it:

  1. The device needs to have been paid off in full, meaning that if you’re on an installment/repayment plan, you’ll need to make sure that the phone has been fully paid for.
  2. You must own your Galaxy S20 Ultra for at least 60-90 days.
  3. You will need to be in good standing with your carrier. This usually means that you do not have any bills that are unpaid or overdue. If you do, you’ll have to pay them off first.

If you meet those requirements, here are the steps to take to get your free SIM unlock code:

  • On your Galaxy S20 Ultra, launch the Phone app and dial *#06# to display your phone’s IMEI number
  • Write the IMEI number down somewhere where you can refer to it easily
  • Call your carrier’s customer service hotline to request your SIM unlock code
  • You will then be asked to provide your Galaxy S20 Ultra’s IMEI number
  • Assuming that you meet all the requirements that we mentioned above, the SIM unlock code will be sent to the email address you provided in the next 2-5 days.
  • Once you’ve received your code, swap out the SIM with a SIM from another carrier
  • Enter the SIM unlock code that you received in your email

Given how new the Samsung Galaxy S20 is, there is a good chance that your carrier will probably not give you a free SIM unlock code, although you should probably try anyway just to see if they will. In the event that you are turned down, not to worry because thanks to third-party services like Movical, for a very small fee, you’ll be able to unlock your phone and start using it with another carrier.

  • On your Galaxy S20 handset, launch the Phone app and dial *#06# to display your phone’s IMEI number
  • Write the IMEI number down somewhere where you can refer to it easily
  • Go to  Movical’s website
  • Select your Galaxy S20 model and the carrier you bought the phone from
  • Enter the device’s IMEI number
  • Complete the checkout process with your payment and contact information
  • You should then receive the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s SIM unlock code in less than an hour
  • Once you’ve received your code, swap out the SIM card on your phone with a SIM from another carrier
  • When prompted, enter the SIM unlock code that you received in your email

Once you’ve completed all the steps, your Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra should now be unlocked and you will not have any issues with swapping between carriers, such as when you’re traveling overseas and need to use a local SIM with your phone. Note that this does not release you from your contract with your carrier and you’ll still need to make payments to them, but at the very least it does give you some freedom.
