OnePlus 8, 8 Pro prices in China are causing quite a bit of controversy

With the launch of the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, it seems that the company is straying even further away from its budget roots. For context, the OnePlus 8 is priced starting at $699, while the OnePlus 8 Pro is priced starting at $899, with the top-of-the-line model almost breaking the $1,000 price point at $999.

These phones can hardly be called cheap, so this is why there is some controversy brewing over in China where the phones are also being launched. This is because according to the prices for the phones listed in China, the OnePlus 8 is priced at an equivalent of $565, making it about $130 or so cheaper than the US equivalent.

The Pro version is also priced cheaper where it is around $762 after conversion, making it also similarly $130 or so cheaper than what it is being sold for stateside. While we get that after converting currencies there will be some price discrepancies, these price differences are a bit too big for our liking.

After all, companies like Apple typically maintain a similar-ish price point across the various international markets they sell their iPhones in, so why couldn’t OnePlus do the same, right? That being said, despite the heftier prices in the states, it doesn’t mean that the OnePlus 8 series are bad phones, but we’re sure that having to pay a bit more than other parts of the world definitely isn’t going to sit well with the company’s fans.

In the meantime, there is some good news as there have been rumors that OnePlus could be planning to launch a cheaper OnePlus handset this year in the form of the OnePlus Z.
