Huawei’s P40, P40 Pro might dual boot Android and Harmony OS

0

At the moment, the trade war between the US and China is still ongoing, which means that for now, the ban on Huawei doing business with US companies is still very much in effect (although US companies can apply for an exception). This leaves the future of Huawei phones in question as it also means that Android could still be very much off the table.

We were given a glimpse of this future with the Huawei Mate 30 series, but it seems that with 2020’s Huawei P40 and P40 Pro smartphones, the company could be trying something a bit novel. This is according to a tweet by a user calling themselves Teme on Twitter, where they claim that the P40 series could dual boot both Android 10 and Harmony OS.

For those who are unfamiliar, Harmony OS is Huawei’s answer to Android and more. This is because the company has plans to make Harmony OS more than just a smartphone operating system, where they are hoping that it could power all kinds of devices, like televisions, smartwatches, IoT devices, and so on.

We’re not sure how dual booting allows Huawei to skirt around the ban, but it could be interesting as it would give Huawei’s customers the choice of trying out Harmony OS to see if it could be a good fit for them. Take this report with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have more details in the coming months.
