Is HTC’s mobile team finally settled and living its best life at Google HQ?

Google’s Pixel 4 is probably 2019’s most leaked phone, even Google themselves have been publishing snippets of design and functionality on twitter. The leaks don’t stop coming and at this point we know almost everything. However a render leak of the new colour “Oh so orange” as they are expected to the call it at the launch event in mid October got me feeling like “I’ve seen that phone somewhere before” – Similar to that feeling you get when you are talking to someone you think you know, but actually you are talking to their cousin. HTC is that really you?

Personally i think it’s undeniable that the Pixel 4 shares an uncanny resemblance to the HTC Desire EYE, something that I had felt while using the Pixel 3a. The beautiful soft touch poly-carbonate body, curved lines and clicky coloured buttons from handsets later in the desire series. It’s all so familiar and I love it.

Believe it or not, it was 5 years ago to the day of this article that we seen HTC Desire EYE leaks really dominate the headlines with the official announcement only a few days later. It leaves me wondering if this is all a wild coincidence or an absolutely perfect homage to HTC’s DNA that now seems to be suitably fused into the Made by Google team that are behind the Pixel range.

Despite the leaks and the missing element of surprise I have not been this excited for a phone release in a while. It feels like HTC is still alive politely haunting us whilst channelling energy through Google, something that I am completely at peace with.

Not long to wait now until official release which is expected on October 15th. Do you plan to pick up the Pixel 4?
