Samsung Galaxy S11 tipped to come with a 108MP camera, 5X optical zoom

Recent rumors have cast some doubt on the future of Samsung’s flagship smartphones, where in 2020, it is possible that Samsung could merge its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series. Regardless of how that turns out, a new report out of Korea has revealed an interesting tidbit of 2020’s flagship smartphone, which at the moment is still tentatively being referred to as the Galaxy S11.

According to the report, it claims that the handset could be packing a 108MP camera sensor that could also feature 5X optical zoom. In a way this doesn’t really come as a surprise, especially when you consider the fact that it is Samsung themselves who made the module to begin with, so if anything, it was really only a matter of time.

The report goes on to add that Samsung will be adopting a periscope-like design for the module, which means that unlike Apple’s iPhones where the camera lens sticks out from the back, this won’t be the case with the Galaxy S11. Assuming the rumors are true, Samsung will actually not be the first to the market with such a device.

Earlier this year, Xiaomi announced the Mi Mix Alpha which also comes with a 108MP camera. To be honest, megapixel count is really for marketing purposes. This is because most of us tend to keep our photos in digital form and upload them to social media where they are further compressed, but we suppose it’s still a technological feat worth celebrating.
