Last week it was reported that Google was gearing up to launch the Android 10 update this week, and sure enough it looks like those reports were correct because Google has announced that the update is being rolled out to Pixel smartphones as we speak, so if you do own a Pixel handset, you’ll want to keep an eye out for it.
If you don’t see it yet, not to worry as we imagine that the update is being rolled out in stages so it should eventually find its way to your phone. As for other smartphones, your mileage may vary. We had heard that OnePlus promised the update on the same day as Google, but it doesn’t seem to be rolling out yet. Instead, the closest OnePlus owners will get for now come in the form of the Developer Preview.
Essential seems to be continuing their streak of releasing the update on the same day as Google. The company has tweeted that the Android 10 update is now available for the Essential Phone. A recent study has also found that HMD Global is killing it on the update front where 96% of their phones are running on the (then) latest version of Android. The promised that nearly all of its phones will be updated to Android 10, so hopefully they’ll be maintaining their momentum.
The Android 10 update will be bringing a host of new features and changes to Android, which includes a new Dark Theme, new gesture navigation, a Smart Reply function, new privacy and security controls, and also improvements to Digital Wellbeing that will help keep smartphone distractions to the minimum. More details can be found on Google’s website.
