OnePlus 7 Pro vs. Nubia Red Magic 3 – battle of the ultimate smartphone

0

For the past few years, Nubia has been pushing the limits with its Red Magic smartphone lineup. While the company hasn’t seen huge success in terms of units sales, they have garnered a loyal following of users who are looking for high-end specs without the ridiculous prices that typically accompanies such devices.

For many, OnePlus was the go-to brand for flagship devices on a budget, but the company’s focus on delivering more refined smartphones to compete directly with Samsung and Huawei has gradually led to more expensive smartphones. The latest OnePlus 7 Pro is the latest example of this, delivering an impeccable design, spec sheet and camera that can go head-to-head with the best of 2019.

OnePlus 7 Pro Review: finally a true competitor

When it comes to specs, the two phones are pretty evenly matched. The OnePlus 7 Pro is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with 6GB/8GB/12GB of RAM, 128/256GB of storage, a 6.67-inch QHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with a heat pipe liquid cooling system. One key advantage that the OnePlus 7 Pro does have is UFS 3.0 storage which is significantly faster than UFS 2.0 storage in the Red Magic 3. The Nubia Red Magic 3 has a slightly smaller 6.65-inch 1080 x 2340 pixel display with the same 90Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a Snapdragon 855 SoC. Rather than a standard heat pipe liquid cooling system, the Red Magic 3’s system also includes a fan which should keep the system cooler than competing devices.

The main difference between these two phones comes down to design and price. The OnePlus 7 Pro with 6GB of RAM is considered by many to be quite affordable at $669, but the Nubia Red Magic 3 costs nearly $200 less at $479.

In our speed test video to see which device is faster, we compared the OnePlus 7 Pro with 12GB of RAM (which actually costs $749) against the Nubia Red Magic 3 which only has 8GB. While you might think that the OnePlus device would be the clear winner when it comes to RAM management, the use of UFS 3.0 storage is actually what gives the 7 Pro the advantage in this test.

Take a look at the video and let us know what you think. If you are buying a phone specifically for great gaming performance and nothing else, would you buy the Nubia Red Magic 3 or the OnePlus 7 Pro?
